Dampa is a student of the Benin Education Fund, in which 5¢ to 30¢ of every Out of Africa product sold is contributed to.

Dampa Micheline Tchesso is 15 years old and attends high school in the city of Toucountouna, Benin. She comes from a family with 6 children. As the daughter of an elderly farmer, Dampa has faced many challenges her entire life. The Benin Education Fund (BEF) recruited her and awarded her a scholarship in 2008, because she was one of a few hard-working girls from the tiny village of Tampègré who had passed the middle school entrance exam.

Dampa attends school during the school year but dedicates herself to farming during every vacation. She helps her parents in their fields because the harvest sustains the family during the dry season. She also cultivates her own field of beans and uses her earnings to purchase school supplies for herself and a few notebooks for her younger brothers.

Despite her young age, Dampa is already thinking about her future. She fights with all of her might and braves the difficult realities of poverty to earn her education. In so doing, she helps more than herself. She contributes to the advancement of her young brothers and the development of her country.
